VIPS Approval

Planning on Volunteering in your child’s class or attending Field Day?

If so, you first have to register with HISD “VIPS” – Volunteers in Public Schools.  Volunteers are crucial to the continued success of WUES.  Whether volunteering with a class party or helping with fundraising events, you are important and needed!

To ensure the safety of all our children, HISD requires an approval procedure for all volunteers interacting with students.  It is a two-step process.  Please complete the procedure below as soon as possible so you do not miss out on attending events!

Every parent needs to be approved even if you were approved last year.  If you were approved last year, you will need to go online to ensure that you are still in the system.  If, for some reason, you were dropped from the system you will then need to re-register online.  All Volunteers, either new or returning parents, will need to go to the WUES office and submit your Identification after registering online or confirming your past registration.

If you are new to VIPS, please follow these instructions:

All volunteers must register online. All volunteers must pass an annual criminal background check before they can participate as a volunteer.

Step 1:            Register online at

Step 2:            Once you have registered, you must go in person to the WUES office and show proof of identification.  Identification information will go into our database for processing by the Volunteer Coordinator at each campus.  The criminal history background check can take 2-3 weeks to complete.  Once you are CLEARED to volunteer, you are eligible to volunteer throughout HISD.
