PTO Meeting and Appreciation Party
Mark your calendar for the final PTO meeting of the school year -- Monday, May 12, at 8:00 am in the MPR. We will have a brief meeting followed by an appreciation party to celebrate a wonderful year.
** If you are interested in becoming involved next year, this is a great time to meet many of the 2008-2009 chairs and decide how you'd like to share your talents.
Science Night's "Discover your World" was a huge success!! The event took place on Thursday, April 17, 5:00 - 7:30pm. Thank you to all volunteers and participants!!!

Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Family Alliance Service Project
Our final service project of the school year will take place Monday through Friday, April 14 through 18. Candlelighters is a non-profit charity organized to provide emotional, educational, and practical assistance to children with cancer, treated primarily at the Texas Medical Center, and their families . Investigate Art with Inspector Art Knight
This
Thursday, February 29th, from 5 to 7 PM, all kindergarten through 2nd grade
students are invited to come beat on drums, get your hands dirty, play with
your food, and get glue on your hands. We're CREATING ART!
"Ride the Hogwarts Express" this Thursday Night, January 31
Second to fifth graders are cordially invited to attend the 2008 Math Night from 6:00 to 8:00pm where they can explore and enjoy math puzzles and games in the magical world of Harry Potter.
At 5:30pm, before the train departs, pizza and bottled water will be available for purchase in the cafeteria for $1 each.
Please note that the PTO meeting for January has been cancelled. Our next scheduled PTO meeting is Monday, March 10th, at 8:00am.
January Service Projects
WUES is welcoming the new year with two important service projects this month. The first is a blanket drive for SEARCH running from January 14 - 18, and the second is a food drive benefitting the Souper Bowl of Caring. Please bring your food donations from January 28 - February 2.

The Final Opportunity to Order the 2007-2008 Yearbook is Monday, December 10, 2007!!
Please make checks out to WUPTO for $30.00 per book and $5.00 extra for imprinting. Please print child's first and last name clearly. Forms, printed on purple paper, were sent home in the December 3rd Monday Folder. Remember that all orders must be placed by Monday, December 10, 2007.A Treasure Chest of Books Update
Here is a jewel of an opportunity: Barnes & Noble will continue to credit WUES for all purchases made through this Friday, December 7th... so keep reading and keep shopping!
A Treasure Chest of Books begins this Wednesday, November 28, and runs through Friday, November 30. The fair is being held at Barnes & Noble, with programs and shopping running throughout the three days. A percentage of purchases (excluding gift cards) will go to the library. Wow! Thank you very much to those who participated in the bake sale by baking and/or purchasing! We were able to raise over $9000 in that single event!
At the end of last school year, Kindergarten Teacher Amanda Holmes contracted a rare nervous system disorder, Guillain-Barre' syndrome, and has been very ill. She is currently in a rehabilitation facility in College Station. We are planning a bake sale to raise funds for her medical costs. If you would like to donate baked goods to the cause, please drop the items off at 7:45am Monday, November 19. The bake sale will be held from 2:30 - 4:00pm that afternoon in front of the school.

Auction -- November 10, 2007
The Auction was a huge success!! Thank you to the committee of amazing volunteers and the co-chairs, Sandy Howard and Cheryl Butler. The total amount raised is still out, but preliminary numbers are exciting! More news to come...
Carnival -- What a Tsunami of a Party!!
Congratulations to the Carnival and Bazaar Committee on its huge success!
The day was just what the committee planned it to be: lots of fun, great
food and many festivities for the whole family! The weather was beautiful
too. Thank you very much to the committee for its many hours of preparation,
to the many volunteers who worked shifts during the carnival and to those who
attended the event. What a great day!!

That Book Update
The Name That Book Club will have its first official meeting on Thursday October 25th, right after school in the library. The meeting will last until 3:45.
We will be
discussing the following Bluebonnet books at the meeting:
Double Identity, The Blue Ghost and Who Stole Halloween.
Sally Foster Gift Wrap and Cookie Dough Pick-up
Please remember to pick up your Sally Foster gift wrap and cookie dough orders this Saturday, October 13, from 10:00 to 2:00 at the Coachs' room near Beehive. If you cannot pick up your order, please ask a friend to do it for you. Thank you for your participation!
Name That Book Club is ready to begin!
Name That Book Club is holding informal meetings immediately after school in the library on Thursday, October 11, and Thursday, October 18. All 3rd through 5th grade readers who are interested in this fun club should come with a parent to one of the meetings to find out more! Catch the Wave to the WUES Carnival and Bazaar on Saturday, October 13, 10:00am - 3:00pm.
Plan to attend the Carnival and Bazaar offering fun, food and festivities for
the entire family!! Ride tickets will be available for purchase on the
day of the event, along with menu choices from local vendors serving from the
Little League Dug Out. You'll also want to take home some great items
from the Bazaar, hosting many vendors with a large variety of goods. See
you there!
Open House was Thursday, September 20
Thank you to all who attended Open House. We are very fortunate to have so many interested, caring parents.
Friday, September 14th, was Surf Day at WUES!!
This special spirit day was dedicated to the kick-off of our school's two largest fundraising initiatives: Auction and Carnival. All students were encouraged to wear Hawaiian, tie-dye or beach shirts, and many were greeted with beach music and given leis to celebrate the day.
Talented Artists are invited to help the Auction Decorations Committee.
Beginning Monday, September 10, the decorations committee is inviting the student body to help us decorate the hallways of the school. Each student will be given a picture with a beach theme to decorate and return to the front office. (Some of the teachers may choose to do this fun activity as a class, and others will send the project home.) We'd like to have the finished work by Tuesday, September 18, in order to display the great talent and wonderful creativity of our budding artists at Open House on Thursday, September 20.
The
PTO Red Apple Sale on Tuesday, August 21, was an overwhelming success!
Thank you very much to the 300+ who attended and supported this event and to the many willing volunteers who gave their time and effort to ensure that it was informative, useful and fun!! What an excellent group of parents we have at WUES!
We're looking forward to a great year, and we are excited about the many possibilities that the money raised will allow us as we work to enhance and enrich the educational experiences of our children throughout the year.
Pre-Ordered School Supplies
Thank you to Wendy Hammerman for the tremendous effort and hours of time spent negotiating, ordering, coordinating and distributing the pre-ordered school supplies for the 2007-2008 school year! Thank you also to the volunteers who worked in the school supplies area during the Red Apple Sale -- we couldn't have done the job that day without your help. If you have not picked up your packets, please check with the front office at school.
