West U Hands On Art is a new, volunteer-led art program that introduces students to great artists and inspires them to create this own works of art.
Goals:
- Embrace the artist in every child
- Explore great artists and styles from different time periods around the world
- Introduce the kids to the key concepts of line, form, light, color, texture, shape and value
- Create art using different materials
- Encourage kids to explore art in the community
- Create art detectives who can appreciate observing art
- Incorporate music into the experience
- Create projects that families will want to keep
Volunteers:
We need at least one instructor and one assistant per class. All materials and detailed lesson plans will be supplied. No artistic skill necessary!
- Class Instructors: Lead your child’s class once a month. You will attend a training session on Tuesday, September 27th at 9:30. Then each month you will assist the class before your child’s class and then lead your class. (If more than one person signs up, instructors can alternate dates)
- Class Assistant: Volunteer to help pass out supplies and assist children. You can sign-up to assist your child’s class once each month or substitute as needed.
